Gastroenterologist and Bariatric Endoscopist

Dr Mathew Keegan is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who lives on the Northern Beaches with his wife and young twin sons. He is committed to providing compassionate and high quality care to all of his patients, and offers consultations in Mona Vale and French Forest, is a visiting Gastroenterologist at the Northern Beaches Hospital and North Shore Private, and also performs procedures at Pittwater Day Surgery and Dee Why Endoscopy.

He completed his training in Sydney Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospitals, before undertaking further subspecialty training in pancreaticobiliary medicine, inflammatory bowel disease, and minimally invasive endoscopic management of digestive tract, pancreatic and biliary conditions under renowned experts at St James University Hospital in the United Kingdom and Hôpital Jean Mermoz in France.

He has special interests in Bariatric Endoscopic procedures, and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including high quality screening for conditions including colon cancer, Barrett’s oesophagus in reflux disease, and pancreatic disease; resection of early lesions; and management of pancreatic, biliary, and small bowel disorders using EUS, ERCP, and balloon enteroscopy. His research has focused on the improvement of the diagnostic performance and patient outcomes of existing endoscopic techniques. He has presented the findings of this research in Australia, the USA, and Europe and been published in international scientific journals and medical texts. He is a member of several Australian and International professional societies and is accredited for gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
