Dr Kostas George Brooks BMed MD FRACP

Gastroenterologist and Bariatric Endoscopist

Dr Brooks is a Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist with a subspecialty interest in Interventional and Bariatric Endoscopy. He completed his studies at the University of New South Wales in 2013 and undertook specialist physician training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital before completing an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. He practices as a Gastroenterologist Consultant at Bankstown-Lidcombe Public Hospital and in addition to City East Specialist Day Hospital and Liverpool Day Surgery.

Dr Brooks is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physcians and certified by the Australian Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRGE) for gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Dr Brooks has extensive experience and knowledge in hepatobiliary disease, becoming proficient in endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP in addition to management and endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s Oesophagus. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the role of high-risk HPV in oesophageal adenocarcinoma through the University of New South Wales. Additionally he is committed to education and has lectured and tutored medical students across multiple universities across Sydney and is a Conjoint Lecturer with the South Western Sydney Clinical School at the University of New South Wales. He has previously published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and presented at local and international conferences.

Dr Brooks has a special interest in providing cancer detection and surveillance in addition to providing personalised, evidence-based clinical care for people with gastrointestinal issues, such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease, liver diseases, peptic ulcer disease, bowel cancer screening, polyp detection and removal and irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr Brooks has private rooms in Double Bay, Randwick and Liverpool, and is a consultant specialist (VMO) Gastroenterologist with full admitting rights to the Bankstown-Lidcombe Public Hospital. He performs private endoscopic procedures at Liverpool Day Surgery and the City East Specialist Day Hospital, and his public endoscopy procedures at Bankstown-Lidcombe Public Hospital.
